Europe in Thailand: take an architectonic journey through the heritage buildings of Bangkok

At the start of the 19 th Century, Bangkok expanded from the banks of the Chao Phraya. Since then and still today, Europeans have helped to build the city.Through a series of four videos, the European Union and The Cloud Magazine uncover unique aspects of historic buildings of Bangkok. This walk through history reminds us of the long friendship and collaboration of Thailand and European countries. It also shows that heritage must be preserved for Bangkok to keep growing as a sustainable city.

Explore the European heritage architectures in Charoen Krung District with H.E. Mr. Pirkka Tapiola, Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand. Learn about the architecture of two of Thailand’s oldest embassies, the Embassy of Portugal and the Embassy of France, which are both located along the Chao Phraya River. H.E. Mr. Joo-Bernardo Weinstein, of Soi Charoen Krung 30, opened the gate to let us see the old house and the warehouse that has been converted into a Portuguese Embassy office. H.E. Mr. Thierry Mathou, his neighbor on Soi Charoen Krung 36, also invited us to see ‘The Residence of France’
